For the Web: I design and produce clean, fast, easy-to-use web sites that conform to web standards (samples below).

For Print: I have a wide range of typesetting experience & extensive knowledge of typography; strong graphic arts production, proofreading, and copyediting skills; industrial-strength text-cleaning and formatting methods.

In General

I am passionate about typography. I regard my work as a craft, and take details seriously. I am able to work independently on projects from conception to completion, but always keep the channels of communication wide open with everyone involved.

For small businesses, publishers, and non-profit organizations I design, compose, and coordinate jobs with printers (or design, produce, and upload web sites).

For web designers and developers I build web sites that match their layouts, with W3C-validated code. For designers and art directors I provide production assistance and consultation and prep and preflight jobs.

Work History

I have worked for ad agencies, design studios, type houses, printing companies, book publishers, newspapers, and magazines. Since 1990 I have operated out of my home office, with freelance forays to ad agencies and design studios.

For 12 years I worked as a typesetter on proprietary, code-based systems (notably the Quadex); from 1990 to the present, I've worked as an all-round production artist and designer on the Mac. Employers and clients have included Hugobooks, Inc., Pinpoint Laser Systems, Ingalls Associates, The Type Department, Inc. Magazine, United Lithograph, McDougall Associates, the Boston Phoenix, Houghton Mifflin Company, and the Rhode Island Publications Society.
